Art Gallery of Ontario – Portraits of Resilience

Written by Maurice
In the spring of 2021, the Art Gallery of Ontario called for artwork submissions showing the resilience that we and the community have shown over the past year.
I selected a piece named “Lift Selfie“.
It depicts the bond that is strengthened by Father and Son when out skying. Oddly enough, during this pandemic, many have been blessed with increased family time.
You can see this online till the spring of 2022. Information below.
Text from the AGO’s Portraits of Resilience Page
In March, the AGO asked you to submit artwork to an online exhibition entitled Portraits of Resilience, reflecting on the year that was and highlighting our collective resilience.
More than 3,000 submissions came in from people in Toronto, across Canada and around the world, including Hong Kong, Italy, the Netherlands, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States and Turkey, demonstrating our widespread desire to understand these times through art.
Artworks shared by artists of all ages — from three to ninety-nine — are profiled in the online exhibition, an artful connection for a time when we can’t connect in person.
An archive of emotion and resilience, the exhibition includes photographs, paintings, textile artwork, illustrations, collages and sculptures, all expressing themes of solitude, pride, dystopia, community, nature and creative release.
The deadline for submissions was June 25, but we’re not ready to say goodbye. The exhibition will stay online into spring 2022. There’s so much to see – we hope you will visit often! And stay tuned for updates: a selection of works will go on display in the Gallery next spring.
I’ve created a short video with content from the AGO website.
